The tobacco smoke causes caries to the kids!
Comparing the results from smoking and non-smoking families, the Japanese scientists have found that the exposure of 4 – month babies on tobacco smoke doubles the risk for caries.
The passive smoking is bad for children’s teeth. The newest research of the Japanese scientists, which results are published in the magazine British Medical Journal, showed that exposure on tobacco smoke even at the 4 – month babies, doubles the risk of appearance of caries on the primary teeth that have yet to erupt.
The experts analyzed the health condition on 75.000 kids, born between 2004 and 2010, as well as the data for regular controls at age of 0, 4, 9, 18 months and 3 years. During the examinations, the moms had to fill questionnaires of the level of exposure on tobacco smoke, during the pregnancy until the 3-rd year of the kid. It was found that at more than 50% of the families which were smokers, at 6.8% of the kids were found direct consequences of the passive smoking, while at 13.000 cases was found caries on the primary teeth.
Although the scientists couldn’t yet explain the connection between the cigarettes and caries at kids, still they’ve found one more proof of negative effects from passive smoking.
